Surroundings
The manor de la Bernardiere is located in the midst of a 120 hectares wooded estate. It is one of the many seigneurial properties surrounding the castle of la Bretesche, headquarter of the barons of Roche-Bernard.

A Viking coming from Normandy, by the name of Bernard, created this barony at the end of the 10th century. Until the French revolution, successively 37 barons resided here. They belonged to several families, The Rieux, the Coligny and the Coislin.

The barony of la Roche-Bernard played an important role in France. On many occasions the barons of la Roche-Bernard were president of the Brittany nobility counsel.

The city of La Roche-Bernard, overhanging the valley of the Vilaine river has countless, 11th, 12th and 13th century house, as witness of its merchant past.

This region includes many touristic attractions such as:
- Guérande and Vannes, medieval walled towns.
- La Baule, the famous sea resort at 40 km away.
- The Morbihan Gulf and its many quaint small islands.
